- Library Services
The Law Library offers a unique service to Victorian judges, their associates and court staff engaging with the Library on the judges’ behalf.
The service is designed to give judges fast access to any information they need, including from interstate and international law library collections if necessary. Our reference librarians work one-to-one with the judge, associate or court staff to assess the query and determine which resources are most relevant and useful. They then arrange timely access. There is no time limit on this service – our librarians will work with judges and their staff until they have all the information they need.
Resources available to judges include an enormous range of digital and hard copy information, including case law, databases, licensed content and subscriber-only publications. This information is described and accessed in a ‘judges only’ portal on the Law Library of Victoria intranet. The portal includes legal research guides and links to the resources, so information can be accessed at any time. Alternatively, Library resources can be accessed via the Judicial Officers Information Network (JOIN) (login required).
In addition, the Library provides legal research training for judges, their associates and court staff to help them navigate the Library's resources and understand how we can assist.
